Burn out

Hello Readers,

I'm writing from home today, not from the Wantirna Knox area where I usually work. October is Mental Health Month, and I’ll be sharing what I do and don’t do to avoid burnout.

Burnout is mental, physical, and emotional fatigue or exhaustion. Some signs that I’m burning out include feeling stressed and anxious about personal life or workload. That’s why I set boundaries to help prevent stress and anxiety.

Other signs for me include not being able to sit and relax, and having my mind race with thoughts especially when trying to sleep at night. To help with that, I use an aromatherapy spray with frankincense and lavender scents. I also listen to podcasts to get out of my head and feel grounded.

Other helpful practices include guided meditations and body scans. A body scan is when you sit with your eyes closed, relax, and mentally scan from your head to your feet, noticing any tension in your body. It’s a calming practice.

Self care is also important. I treat myself to things like getting my nails done or doing something just for me. Exercise helps too, a peaceful walk, a swim, or time in the sauna and spa can be very calming.

It’s also good to have friends and family to talk to when you're feeling burnt out. Expressing your feelings can make a big difference a problem shared is a problem halved. Professional support can be great too, like seeing a counsellor or psychiatrist. They’re someone outside your personal circle, so you can really let things out without feeling guilty.

I’ll be continuing with more blog posts to raise awareness during Mental Health Month.

Thanks for reading my blog.
