Supported Independent Living (SIL)

Registered Supported Independent Living (SIL) Provider

Melbourne Care Services is a registered NDIS provider for Supported Independent Living (SIL), delivering structured, safe, and person-centred supports for individuals who require assistance to live as independently as possible.

Our SIL services focus on skill development, daily routines, and community inclusion within a supportive home environment.

What Is Supported Independent Living (SIL)?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS-funded support that helps people with disability live in shared or individual accommodation with the right level of daily support.

SIL focuses on building independence while ensuring safety, wellbeing, and consistency of care.

Flexible Shared Living Options

Not all participants have SIL funding in place. In some cases, participants may have sufficient 1:1 Core Support hours and a willingness to live in a shared environment.

Where suitable, we can support individuals to live in one of our shared homes using their approved Core Supports. This approach allows participants to experience supported living in a safe and structured environment while maintainingchoice and flexibility.

Where appropriate, and subject to suitability and individual assessment, Melbourne Care Services may support these participants to live in shared accommodation with another person. Supports are delivered using the participant’s existing Core Supports, with clear agreements in place to ensure safety, choice, and consistency of care.

This option can provide a more flexible pathway to supported living while longer-term funding arrangements are explored.

Our Homes & Daily Supports

Our SIL homes provide a calm, structured, and supportive environment where participants are assisted with:

- Personal care and daily living tasks

- Meal preparation and household routines

- Medication administration and management

- Community access and social participation

- Building daily living and independence skills

Supports are tailored to each participant’s goals and support needs.

Pet-Friendly & Creative Home Environments

We understand the positive impact animals and creativity can have on wellbeing.

Our SIL homes are:

- Pet-friendly (where appropriate)

- Designed to feel like a real home, not a facility

- Supported by in-house creative and art-based activities

Art workshops within the home support self-expression, routine, and skill development in a safe and familiar environment.

Culturally Responsive & Local Support

We provide culturally responsive SIL supports that respect individual backgrounds, communication needs, and family involvement.

Our team has experience supporting participants from:

- Chinese community

- Persian / Farsi-speaking community

- Sri Lankan community

We also offer local, English-speaking male support workers where requested.

Our Approach to Independence

Our approach to SIL goes beyond supervision.

We support participants to:

- Develop daily living and life skills

- Build confidence and decision-making capacity

- Participate meaningfully in their community

- Live safely, with dignity and choice
