Good afternoon, readers.

I’m continuing to write about mental health. Since May is Mental Health Awareness Month, the topic I want to focus on is seeking help.

I’ll share some ideas and personal experiences that helped me, though I know that everyone is different. What worked for me might not work for you, but it might be useful if you ever come across someone in need of support.

For a long time, I wanted to handle everything by myself because it made me feel stronger and more accomplished at the end of the day.

But when things became too much, and I started to burn out and feel depressed, seeking help gradually became easier as I let my walls down. Getting more support lifted a huge weight off my shoulders.

The help that worked for me included seeing a psychiatrist, getting on medication, and most importantly talking to my support network. Opening up to my family, friends, and doctor as I processed my feelings made a huge difference.

Additionally, attending support groups for my bipolar disorder was an amazing way to relate to others going through similar experiences. Therapy also helped me express and release my emotions.

Thank you for reading. I hope my experiences help in some way. If you or someone you know needs support,

please don’t hesitate to call Lifeline at 13 11 14.
