Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month How to Get Involved

Hello readers!

I’m writing from home today instead of my usual spot in the Wantirna and Knox area, and I’m proud to share how to get involved in Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. I have already written a blog explaining what developmental disabilities are, and now I’m going to touch on how you can bring awareness and get involved this month.

One great way to participate is to attend a local council activity, such as a morning tea or an art exhibition. I recommend researching your nearest council to see if they have any activities planned for this March. You could also provide social support by becoming a "Leisure Buddy" through organizations like Inclusion Melbourne or a "Gig Buddy" with ACL Disability Services, which offers companionship to adults with intellectual disabilities.

If you have some spare time, you could volunteer at an organization that supports people with developmental disabilities or simply share helpful information and lived experience stories on social media.

Education is also a huge part of this month, so you could even involve your workplace by holding an educational session. I hope you find a way to get involved this March.

Thanks so much for reading my blog!
