Understanding Assistive Technology for NDIS Participants.

Today, I'm writing from the comfort of my home rather than my usual spot in Nunawading, and I would like to share Understanding Assistive Technology for NDIS Participants.

Within the NDIS, assistive technology includes a broad range of products and equipment designed to help people manage everyday activities, improve safety and maintain greater independence.

Depending on a person’s needs, this may include mobility equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs or mobility scooters, personal care items including shower and toileting aids, communication devices and specialised technology, home safety equipment such as rails and alarms, adapted household and kitchen products, smart devices and apps, as well as pressure-relieving and positioning equipment.

The most suitable type of assistive technology will vary from person to person and should consider their abilities, daily routines, living environment and individual goals.

An occupational therapist or other appropriately qualified allied health professional can assess a person’s functional needs and recommend equipment that may make everyday tasks safer and easier. 

For NDIS participants, recommendations may also need to be considered against the applicable NDIS funding and eligibility requirements.
