Thanks for stopping by!
Today I'm writing from the comfort of my home, rather than my usual spot in Nunawading, and I'm going to be writing about Tips for Families to Encourage Independence and Confidence.
Families are an important source of love, encouragement, and support in a participant’s journey towards greater independence and confidence. Through patience, understanding, and genuine care, families can help create a safe and empowering environment where participants feel valued, respected, and supported to achieve their goals. Every small step forward is a meaningful achievement and contributes to building confidence and a stronger sense of independence.
Through everyday activities such as cooking, shopping, planning routines, and household tasks, families can create opportunities for participants to practise important skills and develop greater independence. Offering patience, reassurance, and encouragement allows participants to learn at their own pace while building confidence in their abilities.
Celebrating every achievement, no matter how big or small, helps recognise progress and motivates participants to continue working towards their goals. Supporting involvement in community activities also helps participants build meaningful connections, strengthen social skills, and develop a sense of belonging.
