Hello readers,

I’m writing from home today rather than my usual location in Nunawading, and I’d like to talk about what is supported independent living and who is it for?

We provide disability accommodation through Supported Independent Living (SIL). SIL is designed for people who are on the NDIS. It is a funded support that comes under the Core Supports budget in a NDIS plan.

The goal of SIL is to help people with disabilities live as independently and as fulfilling a life as possible, while receiving the daily assistance they need. It also focuses on building independence, confidence, and personal growth.

Supported Independent Living includes assistance with personal care, such as showering, dressing, grooming, and maintaining personal hygiene always delivered with dignity and respect. It also provides support with meal planning and preparation, including grocery shopping, cooking nutritious meals, and developing independent cooking skills.

Participants can receive help with cleaning and household tasks to ensure their home remains safe, comfortable, and well maintained. Medication support is also available, whether through reminders or assistance with administration, helping ensure medications are taken safely and correctly.

SIL focuses strongly on developing everyday living skills, such as budgeting, time management, and building confidence in daily routines.

Overnight support either active overnight or sleepover assistance provides reassurance and immediate help if needed.

In addition, participants are supported to access their community, attend appointments, take part in social activities, and engage in programs that encourage inclusion and independence.

Thanks so much for reading my blog!
