Hello readers,

Today I’m writing from home instead of my usual spot in Nunawading. I wanted to take a moment to highlight World Day for Safety and Health at Work, observed on 28 April. This day focuses on encouraging a global mindset of prevention to help reduce workplace incidents, health issues, and loss of life.

In my role, I see first-hand how important this is. Creating a safe and healthy workplace means keeping workloads and hours manageable, clearly defining roles while allowing employees some control over their tasks, encouraging open and supportive communication, and building a strong safety culture that helps prevent burnout, stress, violence, and harassment.

There are many ways to get involved. Organisations and individuals can take part by running safety training sessions or toolbox talks, using resources such as the ILO’s Global Report and presentations, carrying out risk assessments to address both physical and psychosocial risks, and spreading awareness on social media using hashtags like #SafeDay, #WorldSafetyDay2026, and #PsychosocialSafety.

Thanks for reading my blog.
