Hello readers,
I’m writing from home today instead of my usual location in the Wantirna and Knox area, and I’m proud to share that March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. If you’re not quite sure what a developmental disability is, I’ll be touching on that and helping to explain it a little more clearly.
Developmental disabilities can look different for everyone, and each person’s experience is unique.
For example, autism can affect how someone talks, connects with others, or understands the world around them. ADHD can make it harder to focus, sit still, or control impulses. An intellectual disability means someone may learn more slowly or need extra help with everyday tasks. Cerebral palsy affects how a person moves and keeps their balance. Some people are born with genetic conditions, such as Down syndrome or Fragile X syndrome, which can affect how they grow and develop.
With understanding, patience, and the right support, people with developmental disabilities can live full, meaningful lives and be valued members of their community.
Stay tuned for the next blog about how to get involved.
